AGM

Malvern United Angling Club held their A.G.M and prizegiving evening at the Newtown club Malvern last week. 27 members attended. Chairman Phil Harding in his address to the membership spoke of the difficult year that the club had experienced with the summer floods decimating the river fishing season, he thanked members of the committee for all their hard work in repairing the banks and platforms washed away by the floods but stressed that there was still alot of work to do and that more help from the membership would be needed. The chairman concluded by asking the meeting to raise their glasses in a toast to the club which enters its 120th year this year, quite an achievement for a small club. In Club secretary Mick Perks report, he told the meeting that despite the limited fishing on rivers due to the flooding, some good catches were taken on the clubs pool at Mathon with several 40lb+ weights in contests there. recent stocking of skimmers to the pool should improve catches further. The trips to the Wye continued to prove popular with members taking good bags of the resident shoals of chub and dace on the three outings to the venue. Mick finished by saying that a similar full programme is on the card this year. After the business of the meeting was done it was time for the trophy presentation, this year Club stalwart Dave Harris had kindly agreed to hand out the cups. A sumptuous buffet laid on by the commitee was then enjoyed. Thanks must go to the Newtown Club for once again staging the event and hosting the monthly commitee meetings. >
